The shaving horse is has been around for centuries as an indispensable work holding tool for bodgers, coopers, luthiers, and many other woodworking trades alike.
This type of shaving horse is based off of an english style bench, with staked legs, a free pivoting yoke, and an adjustable height work surface.
In this workshop we will take local sawmill lumber and turn it into a functional tool and a useful piece of furniture. Some components for this bench will already be made before the class, but all shaping, fitting, and assembly will take place during class. If extra time is needed on Sunday to finish our projects, we will be happy to be around to help.
With a new shaving horse in hand, you will find endless uses for it in your crafting endeavors, or even as an intriguing piece of shop furniture. In addition to coming home with a new tool, you will also be equipped with the skills and confidence to take on new woodworking challenges and furniture making techniques.
